The silver medalist of the Olympic Games 2020, the Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Khizhnyak won the European Games-2023 in Poland. In the final of the tournament in the weight category up to 80 kg our compatriot won by knockout the Croatian Gabriel Veocic.

Oleksandr started the fight powerfully, knocking his opponent out in the first round. The denouement came in the second three minutes at the 1:47 mark. After a series of powerful blows of the 27-year-old Poltava citizen, the referee stopped the fight.

For Ukraine, it became the first and only medal at the boxing tournament of the European Games. In addition, Oleksandr Khizhnyak won an Olympic license and will perform in Paris-2024.

Let's note that it is the third medal of Oleksandr Khizhnyak at the European Games. In 2015 in Baku, the Ukrainian boxer won "bronze", and in 2019 in Minsk became the champion.

As reported OBOZREVATEL, at the Olympics 2020 Khizhnyak could not take the "gold", dramatically losing in the final in the 75 kg weight category to Brazilian Hebert Souza. The decisive meeting in Tokyo ended with a knockout of the Ukrainian.
