Commenting on UEFA's decision, Putin's spokesman proclaims Russia's greatness, becoming a laughingstock online
Russian presidential aide Igor Levitin has reacted to UEFA's decision to allow the Russian U-17 national teams to participate in international tournaments. Putin said that this is a reasonable move by the international organization, as they are aware of the level of football in the Russian Federation.
"FIFA and UEFA understand the level of football development in our country. And the transition of our football to Asia is probably considered inappropriate. It is better to leave us in the European football family. They didn't want us to go to Asia. UEFA does not want to let us go. This shows that they see the level of our federation," Ihor Levitin said in an interview with local propagandists.
Such a pathetic speech by the official caused a real hysteria among Russian fans. Fans were incredulous at Levitin's words about the "level".
In the comments, Putin's aide was called "beaten down".
"They are either being disingenuous or are really so distracted that they don't realize that neither Asia (AFC) nor Europe (UEFA) can or will do anything if FIFA doesn't allow them to do anything. If anything, the AFC is also part of the FIFA system, and the myths that Asia will take the Russian Football Federation somewhere are ridiculous," users say.
It should be noted that UEFA's decision caused a revolt among European countries. At the time of publication of the news, 12 out of 55 UEFA members had already confirmed the boycott of Russia. In addition to Ukraine, these are Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Ireland, and England.
