Zhou speaks out about Valiyeva's case

American figure skater Vincent Zhou has expressed his full confidence that Russian athletes are taking banned substances on a massive scale. The 2022 Olympics vice-champion caused a real hysteria among Russian representatives with his words, despite the proven fact of doping in the aggressor country.

"My teammates and I are aware of the widespread doping among other Russian figure skaters. Unfortunately, this shouldn't surprise anyone, given that the non-compliant anti-doping organization is still tasked with ensuring the integrity of the sport within Russia," Zhou said about the Kamila Valiyeva scandal.

In response, Olympic champion Natalia Bestemyanova demanded to sue the American. "Where did he get this information from? He should be sued for this. How can he say such things to the whole world? Does anyone listen to him at all? Who is he anyway? I can't even remember what this person looks like. I believe that this should be treated like this: dogs bark, the caravan is coming," she told R-Sport.

This absurd statement was echoed by well-known trainer Tatyana Tarasova. "How does he know? Has he been here, lived here? What is he talking about? He should be held accountable for these words! He should be sued," she said.

And two-time Olympic champion Alexander Zhulin began to insult the American skater. "Bastards. Zhou is not a bad skater, it's just that they are all programmed to believe that Russia is an enemy, so they will say anything," the Russian said.

As a reminder, the banned substance trimethazidine was found in Valiyeva's analysis at the 2022 Olympics, which postponed the awarding of the winners of the Games' team events. Later, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) demanded that the Russian be removed from the Olympic tournament. However, CAS allowed the girl to continue competing.

After that, the IOC decided not to hold an award ceremony for figure skaters if Valiyeva wins an Olympic medal in any event. Her results in Beijing were also recognized as unofficial. WADA sharply criticized Russia over the doping scandal. The figure skater herself, commenting on the scandal, could not hold back her tears during the interview.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukrainians Violetta Serova and Ivan Khobta did not congratulate the winners of the figure skating Grand Prix in Budapest, Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava, who are competing under the Georgian flag.
