"As for Russia, there were no other ways": UEFA President answers whether Belarus will be suspened too

UEFA will not suspend Belarusians

The European Football Union (UEFA) will not suspend teams from Belarus from its competitions. The organization sees no reason for such a radical decision and demanded that politicians not interfere in the activities of the organization, which has once again condemned the war against Ukraine.

This was stated by UEFA President Alexander Čeferin in an interview with InfoLibre. The Slovenian official noted that the elimination of Russian teams was inevitable,as Russia had carried out a full-scale invasion of our country. He added that he did not support any sanctions.

"I'm against boycotts, I don't like boycotts or bans. But in the case of Russia, there was simply no other way out, and we all have to try to help stop this war, it's crazy. Speaking of Belarus, a few politicians wrote to us to have everyone who helped Russia suspended. Now I ask: are those who buy gas helping Russia? Should we suspend all European countries, even the top ones, who continue to buy gas? Geostrategic problems should be solved by politicians. Demanding that sports organizations do their job is populism and nothing more," Čeferin said.
