Appeasement of the aggressor: UEFA announces new decision on Russia
The European Football Union (UEFA) will continue to award a coefficient to Russian teams for their performance in continental tournaments, despite their suspension. Nyon is still doing everything it can to ease sanctions against representatives of the aggressor country.
The UEFA press service stated this in response to a request from the Russian propaganda news agency TASS. The organization noted that the Russians will be included in the table of coefficients based on the lowest number of points they managed to score in one season over five years at the time of their suspension.
"Following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee adopted on April 18, 2024, at the end of the 2024/25 season, Russia will be awarded 4,333 points in the men's association table and 1,750 points in the women's association table. That is, the same number of points as in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons," UEFA said.
Thus, Nyon continues the practice of appeasing the Russians, whose aggression against Ukraine since 2014 has led to a significant drop in the level of club football in our country. Many Ukrainian teams initially lost the opportunity to play European Cups at home stadiums, invite top-notch players, and after the full-scale invasion in February 2022, they lost most of their legionnaires and were forced to play international matches outside the country.
It is worth noting that UEFA made this decision after Russia illegally included teams from Crimea in the second league of the country's championship, violating UEFA recommendations.
