Halyna Fedyshyn, a 28-year-old combat medic freed from Russian captivity, got engaged to her 30-year-old boyfriend, a marine with the 36th Separate Mechanized Brigade, Mykola Hrytsernyak. The defenders fought for Mariupol, survived Russian captivity and a long separation, but their love did not stop in the face of difficulties and did not break.

This was announced on his Facebook page on January 4 by the commander of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade, Serhii Volynskyi. Ukrainians wished the couple lasting happiness, peace and fulfillment of their dreams.

"Today I witnessed not just an engagement, but a real triumph of love! This love has survived the trials that can break the strongest, but it did not allow you to break. The couple of Ukrainian marines showed that true feelings know no barriers, even when it is hell on earth," the military wrote.

Halyna Fedyshyn, originally from the village of Svarychiv in Ivano-Frankivsk region, and Mykola, from Donetsk region, fought together in the battles for the heroic city of Mariupol. They were both taken prisoner by Russia in May 2022 when they were leaving Azovstal. The lovers endured the ordeal of captivity and a long separation, but their hearts never stopped beating in unison.
