Some subscribers do not have access to calls and the Internet

Kyivstar's mobile network has experienced a technical failure, which may result in some subscribers being unable to access the Internet. Specialists are working to fix the problem.

This was reported by the Kyivstar press service on the morning of December 12. The company apologized for the inconvenience.

"Today, our network experienced a technical failure, which may result in the unavailability of communication and Internet access services for part of the subscriber base. The company's specialists are working to fix the problem. We apologize to our subscribers for any inconvenience and thank them for their understanding," the statement said.

At 12 p.m., the government said that Kyivstar was expected to restore communication around 16:00-17:00 on Tuesday.

"We hope that in a few hours (the connection - Ed.) will be back in operation," Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure, said at the final meeting of the Ministry of Reconstruction with heads of diplomatic missions and the public.

According to him, repair work can take four to five hours.

Kyivstar itself said that the operator had suffered a powerful hacker attack, which caused the outage.

"This morning we became the target of a powerful hacker attack. It caused a technical failure, which temporarily made mobile and Internet services unavailable. Of course, this is a challenge for us. But now we have engaged representatives of law enforcement agencies and special state services to record the circumstances and consequences of the unlawful interference with the network. We are working to eliminate the consequences to restore communication as soon as possible," the company said in a statement.

Kyivstar added that "as of now, the personal data of subscribers has not been compromised" and promised compensation to subscribers who had no connection or could not use the operator's services.

As a reminder, Kyivstar experienced a large-scale outage on the morning of December 12 when subscribers lost access to the network, the ability to make calls and send messages. The operator's website was also unavailable.

Subscribers who were left without connection can use national roaming, which allows them to connect to another operator's network in case of a network outage.

How to activate national roaming

Kyivstar and Vodafone subscribers can connect to national roaming manually. To do this, you need to

- disable network auto-selection (on Android: settings - mobile network (or connection) - operator; on iOS: settings - mobile communication - network selection - disable the "Automatic" option - all available networks will appear in a few seconds, so you should choose the one you want to connect)

- find and select an available network: UA-KYIVSTAR, Vodafone UA or lifecell;

- if the registration failed, you need to try again or select another network;

- check the possibility of using the mobile Internet by sending a message in the messenger.

For lifecell subscribers, national roaming works automatically. If this does not happen, you must also change the settings manually.

To avoid overloading mobile networks, operators recommend

- disable auto-loading in messengers and other applications (for example, in the Play Market and App Store via mobile networks);

- in the settings, prohibit applications running in the background from using mobile traffic;

- set the video quality to a lower quality when watching online;

- use Wi-Fi whenever possible.

It is also important to try to return (connect) to your operator's network every day either manually or by enabling auto-selection of the network.

It is worth noting that calls to short service numbers are not available when registering a number in national roaming.
