One Family. Wedding series caused controversial reviews

At the end of October, the 2+2 TV channel premiered a new four-part project, One Family. The Wedding, the main theme of which is either the unification or division of Ukrainians in the context of the war with the Russians. The TV channel itself declares the series to be a "comedy," but not all viewers agree with the chosen genre.

In the comments, One Family was named a tragedy and a drama, no matter how hard the creators tried to weave jokes into the plot. Detector Media also drew attention to other controversial moments, such as squalor, nostalgia for the U.S.S.R., imitation of a conversation with the President of Ukraine, and stereotyping of Ukrainians from the Western regions (to see the photo, scroll to the bottom of the page).

The events take place in the fictional de-occupied mining town of Bronzove in the Luhansk region, the prototype of the real-life Zolote. In 2019, the Military Demarcation Line passed there, and later the town was completely liberated from the occupiers.

Former friends, now sworn enemies, Pavlo Dotsenko and Hrysha Kulikov become the main contenders for the mayor's post, but their views on the city's future are fundamentally different.

All this, according to the classic story of Romeo and Juliet, is accompanied by love between the heirs of warring families. The series ends with a wedding on the eve of a full-scale war, on February 23, 2022.

At the end of the "comedy" project, a missile hits the parents and children who stayed in the restaurant.

Disputes over the genre are not the only thing that provoked a negative reaction. According to Detector Media, viewers criticized the series for its stereotypical portrayal of Ukrainians from the Western regions, for example.

In one of the episodes, guests from Ternopil were shown wearing embroidered shirts on the road. We would like to remind you that the events took place in February.

The elections in the city did not escape the attention of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who, shortly before the full-scale invasion, personally called the heroes and praised them for uniting their families, and then promised to come to a wedding in the Luhansk region on February 23. Not all viewers liked this fake conversation.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that a scandal erupted around the new Make it to 30 TV series, which is broadcast on the TET TV channel. Residents of the city of Kolomiia, Ivano-Frankivsk region, were outraged by the "distorted" portrayal of the heroine from their city.
