If you dream of a vacation among incredible natural landscapes, where you can combine active recreation with peace and quiet, then the Valbona Valley will be the perfect destination for you. Mountain ranges, dense forests, crystal clear rivers, and lakes create an unforgettable atmosphere.

This stunning and underrated destination offers the opportunity to get to know the local traditions and culture. Here you can enjoy peace and quiet without the crowds of tourists. Trekking, mountaineering, cycling, rafting - outdoor enthusiasts will definitely find something to their liking. Experts told us why it is worth visiting the Valbona Valley in the Alps.

Valbona Valley National Park, located in the northern part of Albania, is a part of the Albanian Alps. The area is known for untouched wildlife, impressive mountain peaks, crystal clear rivers, and traditional Albanian villages.

The Valbona Valley is a little-known place compared to other destinations. The park covers more than 80 square kilometers. Bears, wolves, and golden eagles can be found here.

One of the features of the Valbona Valley is the huge number of hiking trails that are suitable for any level of fitness and experience.

The most popular route is "Valbona to Tet", which takes tourists along a 16-kilometer route connecting the two villages of Valbona and Tet. Along the way, incredible views of high peaks, cascading waterfalls, and alpine meadows open up. The route can be challenging, but the reward is worth the effort.

For those looking for a more relaxing outdoor experience, Valbona offers tranquil walks along the river, through dense forests, and past traditional stone houses.

The park also has several clear lakes and rivers where you can enjoy a swim or just soak up the sun.

One of the most charming aspects of the Valbona Valley is its rich cultural heritage. The locals preserve ancient traditions that are manifested in folklore, crafts, and gastronomy. You will be able to get acquainted with the life of mountain communities, taste traditional dishes prepared with organic products, and attend celebrations held throughout the year. Birek (pastries with meat, cheese, or vegetables) and tave kosi (lamb baked with yogurt and eggs) are the main dishes in the region.

Although there are no major airports nearby, the park can be reached by car or bus from Albania's capital Tirana or from the coastal city of Shkodra. The journey to Valbona takes you through mountain roads, where there are many opportunities to stop and admire the views. Once in the valley, the only way to get around is on foot, so be sure to bring sturdy hiking boots and appropriate outdoor gear.
