The Q5 SUV from the German automaker Audi is perhaps its most successful model. And soon it will receive a whole list of updates.

The Audi Q5 line was launched in 2008, and the second generation was launched in 2016. And what the company will offer for the 2025 model year should be an improvement of the already almost perfect car, writes the British edition of Autoexpress.

The new Q5 will be the second car to run on the Audi Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform. Its design is inspired by the mechanically similar A5 and A5 Avant. At the front, the Q5 gets a wide single-frame grille and a new badge, as well as slim LED headlights and a pair of air intakes.

At the rear, the Q5 features a full-length light bar linking a set of slim taillights with customizable LEDs. Also new to the Q5 is a third brake light in a roof spoiler with a "mirror" function that projects onto the rear window for improved visibility.

The rear bumper of the updated SUV is almost entirely covered by a piece of wide mesh material, which is also located above the set of exhaust pipes, as in the new A5. A two-dimensional four-ring Audi logo occupies a prominent place in the center of the trunk lid.

However, the main changes will affect the interior of the model. Here, the Q5 follows in the footsteps of the A5, as well as the recently released A6 e-tron, with an (optional) three-screen layout running on Audi's latest MMI infotainment system. Called the Digital Stage, it features a single curved panel connecting the 11.9-inch virtual cockpit to the 14.5-inch touchscreen display. A 10.9-inch passenger screen is located separately, integrated into the dashboard, and allows those in the front seat to control things like multimedia and navigation. A projection display is also available.

The home screen is powered by Android Auto and can be updated wirelessly. Users can download content, including YouTube videos and Spotify music, which Audi says is integrated "directly into the MMI" and "does not require a smartphone" to use. There is a 15W charging tray in the center console, and there are also four USB ports scattered throughout the cabin, the most powerful of which (100W) can charge larger devices such as laptops.

When it comes to interior space, the practicality of the Audi Q5 increases. It comes with a 520-liter boot, which increases to 1,473 liters when the rear seats are folded down. A luggage rack can be stored under the trunk floor, and Audi says it will offer a retractable rear bench as an option across the lineup.

In addition, Audi has confirmed that this will be the last Q5 with an internal combustion engine; as mentioned, this latest model is based on Audi's PPC architecture, which distinguishes it from models such as the new A6 e-tron, which are based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) layout. Thus, the Q5 will have plug-in gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powertrains.

The base engine of the new model will be a 2.0-liter TFSI with an output of 201 hp and 340 Nm of torque. It will be possible to choose front or all-wheel drive quattro. In addition, an MHEV unit with a 1.7 kWh battery will be available, which by itself can add 18 kW (24 hp) of power in short periods of time. The system can recover up to 25 kW during braking. A 2.0-liter TDI will also be offered, again with 201 hp.

As is often the case, however, the diesel engine will offer favorable torque figures of up to 400 Nm, available from low revs. This engine is only available in combination with the Audi quattro all-wheel drive system. Both the gasoline and diesel models use a seven-speed S tronic (dual-clutch) transmission.

The SQ5 will lead the lineup, using a 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with 362 hp and 550 Nm of torque. This version will be equipped with quattro all-wheel drive paired with a torque converter transmission, as opposed to the old car's dual-clutch transmission. No performance figures have been disclosed yet.

Buyers will be able to choose from 11 colors: one plain and seven metallic shades, as well as three pearlescent shades exclusive to the S line and SQ5. Audi says that customized Audi Exclusive paint options will also be available. Different cast wheels (17 to 21 inches in diameter) meet different specifications, with an aero-optimized design and forged options for the S model.
