You can safely put them near the radiator: which indoor flowers love the heat
Not all houseplants can withstand dry air and high temperatures, so you should be careful when placing pots near heaters. Even if you choose a plant that tolerates dry air, you should not forget about additional care. You need to regularly wipe the leaves from dust, periodically spray the air around the plant, and provide sufficient lighting.
There are some types of indoor flowers that can tolerate the heat and dryness typical of places where batteries are running well. Experts from California Shutters and Monique Kemperman, a florist from The Joy Of Plants, told us which houseplants will even benefit from it.
Some houseplants feel great near heaters due to their natural adaptation to arid conditions. They have a lower need for frequent watering and suffer less from evaporation of moisture through their leaves. In their natural environment, they love warmth and grow well at high temperatures.
Experts singled out the yucca plant, which thrives in lighted, warm conditions similar to desert environments.
Yucca tolerates both bright sunlight and partial shade. It does not require frequent watering eiter. Many species of yucca, especially those native to arid regions, can tolerate dry air and high temperatures. Due to its natural adaptation, yucca has thick leaves that help retain moisture and a powerful root system.
The jade tree is also worth paying attention to.
"As a succulent, the jade plant stores water in its thick leaves and prefers warm, dry conditions, which mimic the excessively dry climates it originates from," commented Monique Kemperman.
Succulents and cacti are perfectly adapted to warm and dry conditions. They tolerate temperature changes well, so a radiator will not be a problem for them. Succulents accumulate moisture, which allows them to withstand periods of dryness.
"Aloe vera also thrives in warm, sunny conditions and can handle the dry heat of a radiator, much like the desert climates it is native to. If your home’s air feels particularly dry, consider using a humidity tray, misting your plants, or grouping them together to maintain a healthier environment," the experts said.
Plants put near a heater can dry out faster due to the increased temperature, so you should keep a close eye on the moisture level of the soil.
Some plants may need to be sprayed with water to increase the humidity around them, especially in winter when the radiators are running at full capacity.
Remember that the flowers should not be directly on the heaters or directly under their flow to avoid overheating and drying of the plant.
