Paris, France, has been named world's best city for travel for the fourth year in a row. This is what Euromonitor International researchers, who took into account 55 different metrics, say.

This ranking of cities is based on "six key pillars": Economic and Business Performance, Tourism Performance, Tourism Infrastructure, Tourism Policy and Attractiveness, Health and Safety, and Sustainability. Details of the study are published on the company's website.

Labor shortages, geopolitical tensions, and a sluggish economy were also taken into account. All three factors limit the progress of city life. At the same time, Euromonitor International reported that the attractiveness of cities in the third world countries will increase in the future as tourists increasingly seek out so-called hidden gems.

"Global international arrivals saw a 19% increase in 2024, driven by strong tourism demand. Europe remains the most popular region, reaching 793 million international trips in the year. By 2030, the US, Turkey and China will be the destinations with the highest volume growth of international arrivals. International tourism spending totalled USD1.9 trillion in 2024," the company said.

Top 20 city destinations in 2024:

  1. Paris, France
  2. Madrid, Spain
  3. Tokyo, Japan
  4. Rome, Italy

This year, Paris managed to lead the ranking not only because of its attractiveness to tourists but also because of the Olympic Games. Madrid took a well-deserved second place thanks to its sustainable development strategy and responsible tourism, while Tokyo ranks third due to affordable prices and good infrastructure for MICE events.

At the other end of the table is Cairo, Egypt, which took 100th place. Then comes Zhuhai, China - 99th place, and Jerusalem, Israel - 98th place.
