World No. 1 refuses to compete at the 2024 Olympics and is not going to Paris
The current winner of the Australian Open, winner of 15 ATP tournaments (14 of them in singles); winner of the Next Generation ATP Finals (2019); winner of the Davis Cup 2023 as part of the Italian national team, Yannick Sinner, will not compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The ATP number one has health problems.
"I regret to inform you that I will not be able to take part in the Olympic Games in Paris. After a good week of training on the ground, I started to feel unwell. I spent a couple of days resting, and when I visited the doctor, they found tonsillitis. The doctors strongly advised me not to play," the 22-year-old Italian wrote on his Instagram.
Sinner added that missing the Olympics was a huge disappointment for him, as it was one of his main goals for this season.
"I was looking forward to representing my country at this most important event. I wish good luck to all the Italian athletes I will be supporting from home. Go Italy!" concluded the tennis player.
For reference: Tonsillitis is a chronic infectious disease that inflames the palate, nasopharyngeal, laryngeal and lingual tonsils.
