Without Paris and Vienna: little-known romantic destinations in Europe

The best tourist destinations for lovers

Recently, we shared with you the most visited destinations where you can relax on Valentine's Day. Today, we're going to tell you about very quiet and inconspicuous towns where you can celebrate February 14 just as well. Read below to find out where to go.

Gengenbach, Germany

This small village is located in the south of the country in the Baden-Württemberg region. It's so fabulous and magical that it managed to strike a chord with director Tim Burton. Here he shot one of his best films, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We can only guess what made the famous director so fascinated by the town. Probably, the orchards, vineyards, and wooded mountains. Of course, you won't see this beauty in winter. But this time of year is no less beautiful than in summer.

Hengenbach is famous for its half-timbered houses and medieval buildings. The air here is filled with pleasant and slightly seductive aromas of fresh pastries, coffee, vanilla, and cinnamon.

How to spend this year's Valentine's Day here? Wander the winding streets of the Old Town holding hands. Take a hike along the Weinpfad route. Take part in the free Nachtwaechterrundgang lantern walk. Taste bread baked in a wood-fired oven at the Monastery Bakery.

You can also go to the Town Hall, visit the St. Martin's Church, the Museum of Rafting and Transport, and the Winzerstueble wine tavern: it serves delicious locally produced drinks. You and your partner will enjoy them. Especially if you order a light and crispy Flammkuchen pie with a glass of red.

Dinan, Belgium

This tiny Belgian village is located on the banks of the quiet and peaceful Maas River. It fascinates travelers with its small houses, picturesque views, and cozy pastry shops selling honey cookies.

This is not the usual pastry we are so used to. The cake is very hard. Don't even try to bite into it right away, because you might lose a tooth. You need to break it into small pieces, and then put the crumbs in your mouth so that they gradually melt. Or you can soak it in coffee and then eat it.

Dinan is a very small town, but it is considered the most densely populated in Europe. This is a paradox. This place also gave the world to Adolf Sachs, the inventor of the saxophone. The locals are very proud of this fact. That's why guests are reminded of this fact at every turn.

There are many medieval buildings in the village. But let's be honest, there is no romance there. If it doesn't matter to you how you celebrate Valentine's Day, be sure to visit them. But if you still want tenderness and something pleasant, we recommend walking across the Charles de Gaulle Bridge, and then visiting the Maison de Monsieur Sax exhibition hall, where you can learn the life story of the famous musical instrument's father. The center is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00. Admission is free for both adults and children. And don't forget to visit a very beautiful shrine - the Cathedral Church of Our Lady.

Gruyere, Switzerland

Cheese lovers should head here. The most delicious dairy product of the same name is made here, known all over the world. We are sure that you have definitely heard of it, and perhaps even tasted it.

But the gastronomic surprises do not end there. In the local restaurants, you can order authentic dishes of the region: raclette, fondue, and desserts with the famous Gruyère cream.

The town is located on the shores of the artificial lake of the same name. It is an ideal place for romance. A walk along the picturesque coast is a good idea in any weather.

Not far from the village is the Molezon ski resort, where there are trails of varying difficulty. Be sure to go up to the Charmay resort area. Here you can soak in the hot thermal springs. What else do you need for romance?
