Without exceptions: Russian national team suspended from Biathlon World Cup

Oleksandr ChekanovNews
Russia is left without world biathlon

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) does not plan to allow Russian athletes to compete even in a neutral status until the war in Ukraine is over. In addition, athletes and officials of the aggressor country are required to cut off any ties to the Russian terrorist army.

This was stated by the IBU press service in response to a request from Metaratings.ru. The organization has completely ruled out the possibility of Russians participating in the new World Cup season, as well as future European and world championships, and recalled the obligations of the Russian national federation.

"They need to clarly distance themselves from the SMO (as the war in Ukraine is shamefully called in Russia - ed.) and ensure that none of their officials or athletes are involved in the Russian Armed Forces or take part in the conflict. The IBU Congress in September 2024 did not consider the issue of the return of Russian biathletes. Thus, no decisions on this issue are expected in the coming weeks, months or even longer until the SMO is over. The rules do not provide for the participation of athletes in neutral status," the union said.

The new season of the Biathlon World Cup will kick off on November 30. The first stage will take place in Kontiolahti, Finland, and will include 10 races at once.
