With or without Hungary: Kuleba is confident that the EU will approve 50 billion euros for Ukraine

Kuleba says EU countries will approve 50 billion euros for Ukraine

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is confident that the European Union will decide to provide our country with 50 billion euros. In his opinion, a positive step in this matter should be expected even despite Hungary's possible veto.

The Foreign Minister said this on Monday, December 25, during a telethon. Kuleba said that the decision on this aid for Kyiv was postponed not because of Budapest's position.

According to him, the European states wanted to give Hungary time to agree on joining the allocation of funds, as "the EU does not want a situation where a decision is constantly made without one country."

The Minister is confident that there will be a decision on Ukraine receiving €50 billion.

"There is only one question left: either 27 countries will do it together - all EU members including Hungary, and Hungary has been given a month to hold additional negotiations - or 26 EU countries will allocate this money without Hungary," the minister said.

He added that the issue is the internal unity of the bloc. And now 26 countries are making every effort to preserve it. But if they fail, "the money will still be allocated."

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Hungary's failure to disburse €50 billion in EU aid to Ukraine did not mean that the country would not receive the money. The EU Council did reach an agreement in principle on this issue, although the decision itself was postponed. And in case Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is called "Putin's friend," continues to veto the bill, the EU will have a backup option.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the EU had to unblock €10 billion in aid to Hungary to make it stop blocking aid to Ukraine. At the time, it was the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that was slowing down the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
