Who will win the Oscar in 2024: the first bookmakers' bets appeared

Some of the most popular films, such as Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, were among the expected Best Picture nominees before the premiere, and this has not changed after their release. As Screen Rant writes, the awards season is still in its relative infancy, and the final decision is bound to be influenced by movie races, campaigns, and sneaky tactics.

With this in mind, the list of Oscar nominations and the predicted winner will be updated as January 2024 approaches, when everything will be officially known. However, bookmakers have already formed an approximate rating of films that are worthy of being contenders for the golden statuette.

5th place - The Maestro

Five years after A Star Is Born was nominated for Best Picture, Bradley Cooper's biopic about legendary composer Leonard Bernstein is poised to repeat the success of his directorial debut.

Although the film has always been considered an Oscar contender, the likelihood of it winning increased with its debut at the Venice International Film Festival, where it was nominated for the top prize, the Golden Lion.

The Maestro hopes to add a golden statuette to his resume in March 2024.

4th place - Barbie

Directed by: Greta Gerwig

The overall success of Barbie is expected to lead to an Oscar nomination in 2024 for Best Picture. The film exceeded all box office expectations and became the biggest film of the year, and is now on track to continue Greta Gerwig's Oscar streak.

Her previous two films, Little Women and Lady Bird, received Best Picture nominations in previous years. Barbie's lasting impact on Hollywood and expected contender status in many other categories make it a frontrunner in the category as well.

3rd place - Poor Things

Director: Yorgos Lanthimos

Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone have once again joined forces to create one of the most likely contenders for the 2024 Oscars. "Poor Things" has already been praised for its creativity and uniqueness since its premiere in Venice, where it won the prestigious Golden Lion award.

The result not only made Emma Stone the frontrunner for Best Actress at the upcoming awards ceremony, but also significantly increased her chances of winning the Best Picture category.

"Poor Things" will be released in Ukraine this December. The film is based on the story of Frankenstein: a scientist tries to create the perfect wife. He finds the body of a drowned woman and brings her back to life by inserting a child's brain.

2nd place - "Killers of the Flower Moon"

Director: Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese is one of the strongest contenders for the 2024 Oscars with his film Killers of the Flower Moon. Its premiere in Cannes caused a lot of feedback: the film was called a masterpiece.

The history of Martin Scorsese's Oscar nominations is important because he has had nine films nominated in the most prestigious category, but has never won.

1st place - Oppenheimer

Director: Christopher Nolan

Oppenheimer's victory in the Best Picture category at the Oscars looks most likely at this point.
