On Tuesday, January 9, a memorial to Leonid Kravchuk was unveiled at Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv. This was made possible with the assistance of the Surkis Brothers Foundation.

This was reported by an OBOZ.UA correspondent. The first president of Ukraine died on May 10, 2022.

Thus, a memorial to Leonid Kravchuk was unveiled in the capital at Baikove Cemetery with the assistance of the Surkis Brothers Foundation. The ceremony was attended by the politician's family and friends, former Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The monument itself was made of white Italian marble brought from Italy.

Leonid Kravchuk is the first President of independent Ukraine, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the last Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR (1990-1991). He was a member of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR of the 10th and 11th convocations, a Ukrainian politician and statesman. Since 1995, Kravchuk has chaired the Board of Trustees of FC Dynamo Kyiv.

On January 10, 2022, Leonid Kravchuk celebrated his 88th birthday. At the end of the month, he addressed Ukrainians about the threat of Russian invasion. At the time, he expressed confidence that even if someone really had the idea of attacking Ukraine, no one would be able to conquer our freedom-loving people.

Ukraine's first president, Leonid Kravchuk, died on May 10 after a long illness. The politician's health problems began last summer. On June 29, 2021, the first president missed a solemn meeting of the Rada on the occasion of Constitution Day due to heart surgery.

On May 17, a farewell ceremony for the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk was held in Kyiv. The president's last rites were held at the Ukrainian House on European Square.
