Autumn is the time when nature prepares for rest. It would seem that this is the time to stop all work with plants, but it is not.

Some indoor flowers need to be transplanted in the fall to grow and look better during the winter months. OBOZ.UA will tell you about these plants.

Transplanting plants in the fall may be necessary for their health and further quality growth. If done on time and correctly, the plant will survive the winter better and prepare for the new season.

Which houseplants can be transplanted in the fall?

Not all houseplants respond equally well to an autumn transplant. There is a certain list of species for which this time is the most favorable. Among them are evergreens such as ficuses or dieffenbachia, which are characterized by stable growth throughout the year, slow-growing plants, like succulents and cacti, as well as some types of orchids.

At the same time, plants that actively bloom in the fall or winter are best left untouched until spring. Their root system is too vulnerable during flowering.

When is the best time to transplant plants in the fall?

The optimal time for autumn transplanting is at the beginning of the season, when the air temperature is still at least +15 degrees. This period usually lasts from early September to mid-October. Transplanting too late can be risky, as low temperatures can negatively affect the plant's adaptation to new conditions.

How to transplant plants in the fall?

First, you need to choose a pot that is slightly larger than the previous one. Do not choose a pot that is too large, as this can lead to moisture retention, which will negatively affect the root system.

Moisten the soil a few hours before transplanting. Then carefully remove the plant and any damaged or dry roots. Finally, pour drainage into the bottom of the pot and put the plant in fresh, nutritious soil. Finally, water it, but not too much.

After transplanting, leave the plant in the shade for 1-2 weeks. Avoid excessive watering and stop fertilizing for a month.
