Which cars have the biggest trunk: the best options in different segments

According to statistics for the first half of 2023, the best sellers have the appropriate level of cargo capacity. UK Motor magazine has published a rating of the best and roomiest cars in different segments.
Segment A – city cars
Leader: Fiat Panda
The top 25 bestsellers in Europe include only two models with a length of about 3.6 meters. Both belong to the Fiat brand. The Panda is considered one of the most successful and versatile cars on the market, but its trunk volume is only 225 liters, while competitors such as the Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto, and Toyota Aygo X Cross with similar lengths have more than 250 liters.

Segment B – passenger cars
Leader: Dacia Sandero
The Dacia Sandero ranks second in the overall sales ranking thanks to its competitive price and a trunk volume of over 400 liters.
The Romanian car is followed by the Renault Clio and Volkswagen Polo, which are just over 4 meters long and offer 350 to 400 liters of luggage space.

Urban SUV segment
Leader: Dacia Duster
The dimensions of the Dacia Duster are very close to a compact model, although in other respects, such as price, it looks like a city SUV. The same goes for the Volkswagen T-Roc, which took third place.

Segment C – compact
Leader: Volkswagen Golf
Among the 25 most popular cars in Europe in mid-2023, there are only three models in this category. Experts advise paying attention to the Volkswagen Golf, which has never been one of the largest cars in the C-segment, but it has always had good cargo volume in proportions.
It is followed by its "cousin", the slightly longer Audi A3 Sportback, almost on an equal footing. The Toyota Corolla rounds out the top three.

Compact SUV segment
Leader: Volkswagen Tiguan
The next generation Tiguan, due in 2024, will have an even larger trunk (up to 652 liters), but for now, the current Tiguan is already the most spacious among compact SUVs. In fact, it measures just over 4.5 meters but offers more than 600 liters of capacity. The next in the ranking are Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.

D-segment – sedans and station wagons
Leader: Skoda Octavia
The Skoda Octavia has moved into the D segment also in terms of interior space and boot space. As a Combi wagon, it offers a remarkable 640 liters of cargo space. The Skoda Octavia Combo offers 100 liters more than the BMW 3 Series, Peugeot 508 SW, and Volvo V60.

Mid-size SUV segment
The leader: Tesla Model Y
The most popular car in Europe is also the only 100% electric car in the ranking. We are talking about the Tesla Model Y. In fact, the Californian company's SUV can be considered the most spacious car in the ranking, also taking into account the large front trunk with a volume of 117 liters, which increases the total available volume to 717 liters.
