Which airlines are the safest in the world: the latest rating
Traveling by plane often causes passengers to fear for their safety. For those who are concerned, experts recommend paying more attention to the ratings of the safest airlines.
A fresh report was recently published by Airline Ratings, a service that specializes in this topic. Its experts named the 25 safest full-service airlines and the 25 safest low-cost airlines for 2025. In total, the service monitors 385 carriers around the world.
To compile its rankings, Airline Ratings interviewed pilots and aviation experts and collected data on the following areas: serious incidents in the company over the past two years, age of the aircraft it operates, fleet size, incident frequency, airline fatalities, carrier profitability, IOSA certificates, ICAO audits in the country, and pilot skills and training. As a result, the experts created two lists.

On the contrary, Singapore Airlines and KLM dropped out of the top of the safest airlines. However, they still remain very safe and retain their seven-star safety rating.

How safe is it to use modern air transportation
A recent study of flight safety found that from 2018 to 2022, the global risk of death per flight was approximately one per 13.7 million passengers. By comparison, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 1.19 million people died in road traffic accidents in 2023. That's about two deaths per minute on a global scale.
While these statistics emphasize the relative safety of flights, the loss of more than 200 lives in December 2024 alone, including the passenger plane shot down in Russia, is significantly higher than the 72 fatalities recorded by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2023.
