Where to spend winter vacations in Ukraine that will be no worse than those abroad
The majority of Ukrainians refuse to go on ski vacations, saying that they do not know how to ski. Some don't go because they are afraid of difficult slopes and obstacles, while others believe that this sport is not for them. In fact, all these people are wrong. Nowadays, many such resorts have equipped slopes for beginners. They also have instructors who will be happy to help you learn to ski or snowboard.
Another advantage is that you don't need to fly abroad. There are many locations in Ukraine where you can enjoy the mountains and beautiful routes.
We'll tell you where to go this winter!
Bukovel
It is the most famous vacation spot among Ukrainians. Even those who have never skied its slopes in their lives have heard of it. It is home to fashionable hotels, elite restaurants and balneological complexes.
This resort is considered the most expensive according to locals, but in fact, you can rent a room or a house here at a nice price, just like food. Luxurious dining options coexist with budget pubs and eateries.
As for the slopes, there are 62 of them with a total length of 50 kilometers. To help beginners and experts distinguish between difficult and easy pistes, they are marked with three colors. Blue ones are easy and designed for those who are just starting to get acquainted with winter sports. Red ones are of medium difficulty. They are chosen by those who already have skiing experience but are still unsure of their skills. Black ones are for professionals. They are equipped with jumps and various obstacles.
Drahobrat
For those who like solitude, this ski area is the best choice. It is more difficult to get to than Bukovel because it is located far from settlements. However, it should be noted that the long way to it is immediately forgotten when you see the picturesque views with your own eyes.
When you arrive here, you feel like you are in a fairy tale, where there are only mountains, snow-covered forests and meadows. The location has fewer slopes than the previous resort, only 20. But the big advantage is that the complex is located at an altitude of 1,500 meters.
Due to this feature, snow covers local routes from November to May. This resort is considered the highest in Ukraine. That's why daredevils who love extreme descents come here.
Slavske
If severe frosts are not for you, head to this place. The winters here are surprisingly mild and gentle, so you won't get cold. You don't have to come here to go skiing, though, as there's plenty of entertainment for every taste.
Fans of discos, parties, and themed pubs won't be bored either. There are a lot of them here. In addition, excursions are constantly held here, which is an ideal activity to admire the scenery. They are really incredible here.
The total number of trails is 11. Don't be surprised by such a small number. They are long and have varying degrees of difficulty. No wonder our Olympic team trains in Slavske. By the way, the height of the slopes is also impressive. It varies from 1,000 to 1,600 meters above sea level. It also has the longest chair lift in Ukraine.
Pylypets
According to tourists, this resort is a budget version of Dragobrat. Prices here are moderate for both housing and food. But it is worth knowing the main feature of the location: there are no snow cannons, which means that the start of the season depends on weather conditions. To make it easier to decide on the date of the trip, all the mountain trails are equipped with video cameras, through which you can see their condition online.
People come here to admire the fabulous nature. For Ukrainians, this is a special place where they can escape from their routine and forget about everyday life. It is here that the unique Borzhava meadow and the Shypit waterfall are located. It is also a paradise for freeride skiers and those who love jibbing. By the way, competitions in these two sports are held here every year.
Of course, there are slopes for beginners and professionals, with a total length of 20 kilometers. The base itself is located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The longest run is on Mount Hemba.
Plai
A relatively new resort that opened in 2007. It is small in size, but this does not prevent it from receiving thousands of vacationers every year. Many skiers and snowboarders call the location a "mini-version of Bukovel".
The resort has slopes for children, beginners, and experts. There are 6 slopes with obstacles and jumps in total. If you get tired of skiing, you can book a horseback ride or visit a kolyba, where you will be hospitably greeted and treated to delicious herbal tea. For those who like strong drinks, spicy mulled wine will be offered.
Ukrainian mountain landscapes are no worse than those abroad. Therefore, you don't have to go to distant lands to have a good rest. In addition, our ski resorts open in late fall and almost all of them are open until mid-spring. Thus, plan your vacation, buy tickets, and pack your bags. It's time to conquer the snow slopes.
