Where to sharpen your skis: top budget ski resorts in Europe
Winter is on its way, so it's time to decide where to go on vacation. There are actually a lot of locations. But, unfortunately, not all of them are affordable. So today we're going to tell you which destinations to choose to save some money.
Vallnord
Located in the Pyrenees Mountains in Andorra. The season lasts from December to April. There are two tourist centers here: Pal and Arinsal. The total length of roads is more than 63 kilometers, 43 of which are equipped with snow cannons.
The location is perfect for beginners and families with children. There are also trails for experienced skiers. Tourists can also go dog sledding, sledding, and snowmobiling.
A daytime ski-pass will cost about €44, teenagers from 12 to 17 years old – €39, children from 6 to 11 – €35. You can also rent a full set of equipment here. It will cost about €29.
Formigal
The resort is located in Spain in the Pyrenees Mountains and is considered one of the largest in the country and in Europe. The season lasts from November to April. Interesting fact: King Philip VI repeatedly rested here.
Several ski lifts have been built here, which can be used to reach the ski areas. The highest point of the complex reaches about 2250 meters above sea level. There are trails of different difficulty levels on the territory, 33% of which are classified as easy and 30% for professionals. In total, they stretch for more than 137 kilometers.
Here, travelers can have fun on ice karting, go snowmobiling, try dog sledding, and even build a real igloo.
For a daytime ski-pass, you will have to pay about €56, children - €45.
Livigno
A municipality in Italy in the Lombardy region, Sondrio province. The resort is located at an altitude of over 1816 meters above sea level. The season lasts from November to May.
The total length of the slopes is 115 kilometers. They are divided into categories: blue, red, and black. Professionals are advised to choose the Motolino direction, the route is Monte della Neve (2785). Easier descents start from Trepalla. For beginners, we recommend going to Carozello. There are also instructors here.
The complex has an indoor pool, gy,m and indoor tennis courts. Tourists can also try dog sledding.
By the way, Livigno has a free shuttle that transports travelers from one side of the valley to the other.
A daytime ski-pass will cost about €36, children €18, teenagers and pensioners €30.
Schladming
A town in the district of Lees in Austria. The season starts in mid-December and lasts until April. The attraction is located at an altitude of 753 meters above sea level. The total length of the slopes reaches 123 kilometers, 46 of which are for beginners and 68 for professionals.
The resort is considered one of the most prestigious in Europe. It is also among the top ten in the world.
An interesting fact: in 1973, a skiing record of 111 kilometers per hour was set here.
It also regularly hosts championships and competitions in various winter sports, including luge.
As for entertainment. There are bowling alleys, fitness centers, a skating rink, an indoor pool, etc. You can also ride a horse-drawn sleigh here.
If booked in advance, a daytime ski-pass will cost approximately €60, and €71 at the box office. Youth – €45/€53, children – €30/€35.
Vogelj
Vogel is located in the Triglav National Park in Slovenia. The ski resort is the highest in the country – 1800 meters above sea level.
Since it is located in a nature reserve, snow cannons are not used here.
The total length of the slopes is 22 kilometers, 9.5 of which are easy and 12 are difficult. There are 8 ski lifts. The most popular route is Žagarjev graben.
Special freeride areas have been set up for extreme sports enthusiasts. There is also a natural ice rink where you can play curling.
A daytime ski-pass for an adult costs €44, children €22, and teenagers and pensioners €38.
