However, women often use this product incorrectly and it spoils the whole makeup look. InStyle told us where and how to apply highlighter to get a good result.

The shade

When choosing a highlighter, just like when choosing a foundation, you need to consider your skin tone. Warm undertones, such as peach or yellow, usually go well with bronze and golden highlighter shades. If you have a cooler skin tone, go for pearly white or silver products. If you have medium skin tone, choose a peach or coral highlighter.

Type and method of application

Experts say that powder highlighter is best for oily skin. A cream, gel, or stick highlighter will give dry skin extra moisture.

Prepare your skin

After you have cleansed and moisturized your skin, apply a primer. This is to make your makeup look better and last longer.

If you're using a liquid highlighter, you can mix a small amount with your foundation to enhance your skin's radiance.

Where to apply the highlighter

Highlighter should be applied to four areas: just above the apple of the cheek, on the outer part of the eyebrows, on the depression between the nose and the upper lip, and in the inner corner of the eye.

Most importantly, avoid the T-zone, as it is already prone to excessive shine.

Also, experts do not recommend applying the product to the nose, as it looks cute only in photos.

How to apply highlighter

To apply powder highlighter, use a fluffy brush. Apply a little product to it, remove the excess, and lightly sweep it over the cheeks towards the ear, and from there, smoothly sweep it from the beginning of the cheekbone to the corner of the eye.

Then apply a little bit of the product right above the lip groove with a small, pointed brush to make your lips look fuller.

Finally, apply the corner of the brush to the inner corner of the eye.

To use the highlighter in stick form, dab it where you want to create a highlighter and blend it out with a brush or your fingers.

Liquid highlighter is super easy to apply with a damp sponge.

Use a bronzer

If you don't want your skin to look too shiny, make sure that only one product - bronzer or highlighter - has shimmer.

Bronzer will help to emphasize your highlighter more clearly. Apply it to the cheekbones and then add your glow as usual.
