When will Ukrainians celebrate Easter in 2024: does the date shift

Easter is one of the most important Christian holidays, the date of which changes every year. The local council of the OCU approved the transition to the New Julian calendar from the new church year, which began on September 1.

In Ukraine, they decided to stay with the old Easter calendar, which is different for Orthodox and Catholics, but this will not affect the date of the celebration. The Paschalia is a table for determining the time of the annual celebration of Easter and other holidays.

Easter and the holidays linked to it are counted in time: the 40th and 50th days after the Resurrection of the Lord remain on the usual calendar, and everything else is shifted back by 13 days.

Ukraine remains on the Orthodox Paschal calendar and will continue to celebrate Easter together with the rest of the Orthodox world.

Therefore, in 2024, Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on May 5, while Catholic Easter will be celebrated on March 31.

There is a commission set up specifically to consider the issue of celebrating Easter on the same day as Orthodox and Catholics.

As a reminder, with the introduction of the New Julian calendar, the OCU has harmonized the calendar of holidays with the state, so the church will celebrate the Intercession on October 1 and Christmas on December 25.
