When will the foldable iPhone be released: new details are known
Rumors that Apple is preparing to release a foldable iPhone have been circulating for years. It is said that the company is indeed considering the possibility of releasing an innovative iPhone, but at the moment there is no official information about the specific launch of such a device.
The folding screen will allow to increase the display size without significantly increasing the dimensions of the device itself. Details about whether Apple is ready to resort to such a revolutionary solution were provided by MacRumors.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the first foldable iPhone should go into mass production in the second half of 2025. At least that's what was stated in a recently published computer translation of a post that originally appeared in Kuo's blog in Chinese. This translation was incorrect, experts say. Kuo shared an English version of the text, which stated that the foldable iPhone was still in the planning stages.
The device will reportedly only work with eSIMs, just like the upcoming ultra-thin iPhone 17 model. Kuo noted that the two devices are likely to face obstacles in the Chinese market unless Apple changes the design to support physical SIM cards.
In 2021, Kuo said that Apple would introduce the first foldable iPhone as early as 2025.
Analyst Ross Young commented in 2022 that Apple had delayed the release of the foldable iPhone until 2025.
Instead, analyst Jeff Pu believes that the innovative model may appear as early as the end of 2026. TrendForce predicts a different date – 2027.
There are reports that Apple may release an iPhone with a folding design in 2026. That is, the specific timeframe remains unknown.
Kuo added that although the ultra-thin iPhone 17 may ship in larger volumes than the iPhone Plus, it probably won't significantly increase overall iPhone sales, "partly due to the lower component level combined with the high price."
By the way, 2025 will be a rather busy period for Apple. The company has plans for an updated iPhone lineup, new artificial intelligence features, smart home push, and Apple Watch SE, iPhone SE, Apple TV, HomePod, and Mac Pro.
