Forgiveness Sunday is also called Syropusnaya Sunday or Forgiveness Sunday, Syropust. Like some other Christian holidays, it has no fixed date. This year, Lent begins on March 18, so the last day of Shrovetide and, additionally, Forgiveness Sunday is celebrated on the 17th.
Previously, on this day, the whole family would gather at the eldest relative's house and apologize to each other for all misunderstandings, quarrels, and insults.
Also on this day, it is customary to apologize to all friends and acquaintances and let go of all grievances.
In addition, Forgiveness Sunday is a good day to confess and visit the graves of the dead to remember them with a kind word and also ask for forgiveness.
How to ask for forgiveness on Forgiveness Sunday
Usually, on Forgiveness Sunday, you simply say "I'm sorry". The main thing is to be sincere and frank.
The answer to this is "God will forgive, and I forgive" or "God will forgive, and I have forgiven". However, if you are not yet ready to forgive the person, you should not lie to them or yourself. It is better to simply say "God will forgive".
Traditions
Forgiveness Sunday has not only rules but also prohibitions. For example, on this day, you should not drink alcohol, eat meat, do needlework and household chores, scold children, or dwell on bad thoughts.
And most importantly, it is by no means allowed to swear, quarrel, or wish evil upon anyone.
