Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning film Gladiator will get a sequel this year. The premiere date of Gladiator 2 in Ukrainian cinemas has been announced.
A dubbed official trailer for the film has been released on the YouTube channel of the distributor B&H Film Distribution Company. In particular, it announces the date of Gladiator 2's premiere in Ukraine, which is November 14. It is noteworthy that it will take place a week before the sequel's worldwide release, which is November 22.
Gladiator 2 takes place two decades after the end of the original film. Lucius, grandson of the former Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla, lives with his wife and child in Numidia. Roman soldiers led by General Marcus Acacius invade their city and take the man into slavery. Inspired by the story of Maximus, whose death he witnessed with his own eyes, Lucius decides to fight as a gladiator, opposing the rule of the young emperors Caracalla and Geta in the Colosseum.
The legendary Ridley Scott returned to the director's chair. The screenplay for Gladiator 2 was written by David Scarpa, who previously worked with the director on All the Money in the World and Napoleon. The story was developed by Peter Craig, who co-wrote Batman 2022 and the action film Top Gun: Maverick. The project was directed by John Mathison, who also shot the original film.
Paul Mescal (Normal People, All of Us Strangers) plays the lead role in the film. The cast also includes:
Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, Wonder Woman) as Lucilla;
Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian, The Last of Us) as Mark Acacia;
Denzel Washington (Training Day, The Book of Eli) as Macrinus;
Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things, A Quiet Place: Day One) as Emperor Geta;
Fred Hechinger (News of the World, The Woman in the Window) as Emperor Caracalla.
The announced budget of the film is 250 million dollars. Nothing is known yet about the movie's length. The production of Gladiator 2 is handled by Paramount Pictures.
