Apple continues to improve its mobile operating system, and the latest beta version of iOS 18.3 brings a number of important changes. The main focus is on improving the functionality and usability.

The innovations include the notification system, camera, PDF processing, and Visual Intelligence. In addition, exclusive features for the iPhone 16 expand the capabilities of the latest generation of smartphones.

Apple has temporarily disabled the News & Entertainment category of summaries, which may indicate future changes to this feature. The company is probably working on improving it or preparing for a full update. Users who wish to customize other categories of summaries can do so in the Settings section of the app. Such changes indicate Apple's intention to make the notification system even more personalized.

New camera features

Apple has renamed the AE/AF Lock feature, which is now called Focus and Exposure Lock. This was done to make it easier for users to understand its purpose. The feature is available in the Camera Control menu and helps lock in shooting settings for consistent photos and videos. This update will be especially useful for iPhone 16 users who actively use the camera to create content.

Simplified interaction with Genmoji

The Messages app has a new feature that allows you to quickly create personalized Genmoji emojis. This feature is now available directly after clicking on the "+" icon. This enhancement allows users to express emotions faster with unique stickers, adding more personality to communication.

Improved PDF editing

In iOS 18.3, the system now warns users that cropped parts in PDF documents are not completely removed. The message indicates that hidden parts may remain accessible in certain apps. This is an important update for those who work with confidential information, as users will now be more cautious when editing documents.

Visual Intelligence features for iPhone 16

The latest iOS 18.3 beta includes new Visual Intelligence features that work exclusively on iPhone 16 smartphones. This technology is aimed at enhancing the camera and artificial intelligence capabilities of the system.

Adding events to Calendar

The first Visual Intelligence innovation allows you to automatically add events to the Calendar app by scanning posters, flyers, or other documents with dates. The feature was announced during the iPhone 16 presentation in September 2024. To use it, just point the camera at the document, and the system will automatically recognize the date and offer to add it to Calendar.

Another useful feature is Visual Intelligence, which extends the camera's capabilities to recognize plants, animals, and insects in real time. Although the Photo app already has a similar option, the new update allows you to use identification directly from the camera. This greatly simplifies the process and makes interaction with the world around you even more informative.
