The gardening season is coming to an end. The harvests are in, the pantries are stocked, and it's time for seasonal pruning and protecting the garden from future frosts. However, experienced gardeners know that mid-September and early October are still a favorable period for planting certain garden crops.

OBOZ.UA tells you what can be planted in the beds in the fall. Correct and timely measures guarantee an early harvest next season.

Onions

Autumn planting guarantees the early appearance of green onions in spring and onions in summer. Plants that have grown stronger over the winter will be less susceptible to disease and pests, such as onion flies.

Carrots

To sow carrots, you need to wait until the soil has settled sufficiently, so you should prepare the bed in advance. The optimal soil temperature for winter planting is +2 +4 °C. The seeds should be sown to a depth of 3-4 cm.

Winter garlic

Winter garlic is loved by gardeners for its large cloves, which are easy to clean - they are easily separated from the head. It is enough to leave 8-10 cm between the cloves in a row. Planting should be done to a depth of 8 cm. With the onset of steady cold weather, cover the beds with fir branches or straw to keep the snow at the planting site.
