What to do with strawberries to prevent them from spoiling for a long time: try this ingenious hack
Storing strawberries in plastic packaging from the supermarket may seem like an easy solution, but in reality, this is a big mistake that most of us make.
Plastic retains moisture, creating a more humid environment. As a result, strawberries are more likely to spoil, mold, and turn mushy when stored in this way. OBOZ.UA tells you what to do with strawberries to keep them fresh for a long time.
To do this, you can use ordinary salt. Add a few tablespoons to a large bowl of water and dissolve it (it is best to use filtered water). Add the strawberries to the water and let them steep for at least five minutes.
The salt water is a safe way to kill any mold spores, dirt, or bacteria that have gotten into the fruit, and if you get rid of them, the strawberries won't rot prematurely.
After that, put the strawberries in a colander and rinse them well with cold water. Then put the berries on paper towels to dry. You can use a kitchen towel if you want, but the berries can stain it.
It is extremely important that the strawberries are as dry as possible, as excess moisture will promote mold growth.
When the strawberries are dry, put a paper towel on the bottom of a container with a lid and transfer the strawberries. The paper towel will absorb any excess moisture that the strawberries release so that they stay as dry as possible and there is less chance of them becoming moldy.
Also, be sure to store strawberries in a container with a lid in the refrigerator, as this prevents bacteria from getting to the fruit.
