What not to store in the oven drawer: not everyone knows
Almost every oven has a small drawer underneath. It does not have any specific purpose, so owners and housewives use it to store various things.
Even though the oven drawer does not have a heating element, the temperature in it can increase when the oven is in use. That's why Better Homes & Gardens has shared a list of things you shouldn't put in the drawer.
Storing some things in the drawer under the oven can damage the furniture and even cause a fire.
Oil
It may seem logical to store oil under the oven so that it is easy to get to while cooking. But in reality, this is quite dangerous. Vegetable oils are highly flammable, so high temperatures or a small spark can easily cause them to catch fire.
Wooden boards
Wooden cutting boards do not tolerate high temperatures very well. At the very least, they can warp and crack, so they should be stored in a cool, dry place.
Plastic wrap
Plastic wrap should never be stored under the oven. It can easily deform, shrink, or melt when exposed to high temperatures.
Detergents
One of the most dangerous items to store improperly is cleaning products. Any contents of an aerosol can, dishwashing detergent, alcohol, and other components of detergents are flammable. Therefore, it is best to store them in a cool, dry place with good ventilation.
Towels
Kitchen towels often come into contact with grease and oil during cooking. Even after washing and drying, these contaminants may not be completely removed and may catch fire when exposed to high temperatures.
Groceries
If you are running out of pantry space, do not use the cabinet under the oven to store food. Flour, sugar, etc., can easily catch fire in extreme heat.
Alcohol
Alcoholic beverages, especially spirits, are extremely flammable and should never be stored in the oven drawer. In addition, heat has a negative effect on the flavor of alcoholic beverages.
Food storage containers
Since most food storage containers are made of plastic, they should not be stored in the oven drawer. They can deform, melt, or even catch fire.
