What is the Renault Ampere, and how will it affect the cheap cars of the future
Recently, there was a wave of discussion in the media about the Renault Ampere, a kind of symbol of cheap cars of the near future. However, it quickly settled down, and many people did not even understand what it was about. Although the issue is interesting and important, we will talk about it.
As OBOZ.UA reminds, Renault Ampere was actively discussed in November 2023 along with the news of the new 4th generation Renault Twingo. This is a cheap electric car expected to hit the market in 2026 with a price of less than 20,000 euros. And this is just the beginning.
Earlier, Renault announced something about the new Ampere division. This is a special sub-brand that will be responsible for low-cost electric cars. The Ampere division will include not only the new Twingo budget car but also other models – a total of 6 cars are expected by 2031.

It was reported that Renault was looking at Volkswagen as a partner for the joint development of the Twingo EV. Of course, the German manufacturer would have received a variant of the model for itself. Now it has become known that the negotiations did not lead to anything good, and VW will independently develop its own budget electric car by 2027 with a price of about 20,000 euros.
The future of the Renault Ampere will be developed jointly with the Chinese.

Renault may have seen Volkswagen as a large and promising partner for the joint launch of the Ampere sub-brand. However these plans did not materialize, and the French manufacturer will be assisted by another partner from China.
In short, Ampere is Renault's alliance with a Chinese partner to develop low-cost electric vehicles that are set to appear in the near future and in large numbers. At the same time, we do not yet know the Chinese partner. But it is obvious that more information about this cooperation will appear over time.
