It is believed that at the birthday celebration of DJ Kool Herc in New York on August 11, 1973, the birthday boy began to rap between playing records with popular music. Thus, he created a whole new musical trend. Now hip-hop is a whole culture with its own art (mostly street art), clothing style, and dancing.

Mountain Day. In 2014, Japan announced that it would celebrate a day dedicated to the mountains on this date. Approximately 70% of Japan's land area consists of mountainous regions, so this landscape is of particular importance to the country. Later, the holiday was unofficially celebrated in other countries as well. If you can't spend this day in the mountains, you can watch a movie or read a book about mountaineers or look through your travel photos.

Melon Day. It is a holiday that originated in Turkmenistan, the country of the sweetest melons. The fruit is an integral part of Turkmen culture. However, it is loved literally all over the world. Isn't this a good reason to enjoy this wonderful fruit?

Superstitions on August 11

According to popular beliefs, on this day you should not touch the viburnum bushes - cut its branches, pick leaves or berries. It is believed that this will cause irreparable damage to the plant.

You should also not start big business or make large purchases. It is believed that this day will bring only bad luck. Important work should also be postponed for another day

Quarrels and swearing on this day will also be much more destructive. If you don't want to lose an important relationship, try to restrain yourself.

As for the superstitions that our ancestors used to predict the weather, today they were as follows:

  • hot and sunny day means that early September will be warm;
  • morning fog means a poor honey harvest;
  • a lot of berries and nuts have ripened by this day means a cold winter;
  • if viburnum has turned red, one should expect frost and snow in winter;
  • if there are few mushrooms in the forests, then the weather will be harsh.
