On September 11, Orthodox believers honor the memory of St. Theodora of Alexandria. Victor, Herman, Ilia, Karp, Leo, Roman, and Serhiy celebrate their name days.

In modern history, the date of September 11 is remembered primarily as the day of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in the United States. Since 2008, September 11 has been the Patriot's Day. OBOZ.UA tells about the holidays and significant events of this day.

Holidays and memorable dates of September 11

St. Theodora of Alexandria was a nun and Christian ascetic. According to legend, she performed several miracles: when a monk was attacked by a wild animal, she drove the animal away with a single word and healed the priest. Theodora also brought water back to the wells during a great, terrible drought.

The people called September 11 Theodora's Great Vespers. It has long been customary to see off the summer on Theodora's Day. By this day, they tried to fully harvest the entire grain crop. They would gather nuts and honey and cook various delicacies. Housewives also cooked a variety of dishes from the new season's cabbage. They used to say that if the whole family ate cabbage on Theodore's Day, they would be happy all year long.

September 11 is the Patriot's Day in the US. The date was chosen to commemorate the people who died or were injured in the terrorist attack in New York City on September 11, 2001, when planes crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Terrorism poses a particular danger to society because it is aimed at the deliberate use of violent acts.
