On October 11, Orthodox believers honor the memory of Philip, one of the 70 apostles, the only one among the seven deacons and Theophanes the Confessor, Bishop of Nicaea. Oleksandra, Oleksii, Anatolii, Valentyna, Vasyl, Viacheslav, Maria, Uliana, and Fedora celebrate their name days.

What holidays are celebrated on October 11

October 11, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of St. Philip. The saint was one of the apostles and came from Caesarea. The disciples of Jesus Christ elected him a deacon. At the time of the persecution of Christians, Philip decided to leave Jerusalem and go to one of the Samara cities, where he began to preach. There is evidence that the apostle healed the sick, and that his four daughters had prophetic gifts. Philip died in the city of Hierapolis.

The International Day of the Girl Child is a holiday created by the United Nations to draw attention to discrimination against girls in different countries and to raise awareness of the inequalities faced by girls based on their gender. It was celebrated for the fist time on October 11, 2012.
