Feast of St. Gregory, Bishop of Great Armenia

One of the most important religious holidays of this day is the celebration of the Holy Martyr Gregory, Bishop of Great Armenia. Gregory the Illuminator, as he is often called, was a key figure in the introduction of Christianity and played an important role in the conversion of the Armenian people to the new faith in the fourth century.

It was on his initiative that Armenia became the first state to officially adopt Christianity as the state religion in 301. Therefore, the Armenian Apostolic Church is still called the Gregorian Church in honor of this saint.
