What holidays are celebrated on September 10

The martyrs Minodora, Mitrodora, and Nymphodora were sisters originally from the city of Sevastia, which is located in modern Turkey. The sisters were brought up in a Christian family and led a pious life. At that time, the cruel Emperor Diocletian ruled and persecuted Christians. The sisters were tortured, but they refused to renounce their faith, which led to their martyrdom. The holy martyrs set an example of deep faith and resilience in times of persecution.

Our ancestors have long believed that spring water has a special healing power during this period. Traditionally, in the morning, they would wash themselves with water and read prayers. And they predicted by the weather whether frost would come soon. If the weather was warm and sunny that day, the fall would also be long and warm. And if there are already many berries on the rowan tree, the winter will be frosty and long.

The World Suicide Prevention Day was launched at the initiative of the International Association for the Prevention of Suicide (IAPS) with the active support of the WHO and the UN. According to the latest estimates, more than 800,000 suicides occur every year - more people die from suicide than from all wars and violent killings combined. The day aims to draw the attention of the authorities and the public to this problem.

The world also celebrates:

  • The day of semi-finished products or "Dinner in front of the TV" in the United States (National TV Dinner Day);
  • Idea Exchange Day;
  • Port Wine Day;
  • International Day of Gynecological Health.
