What holidays are celebrated on October 15

October 15, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of the Monk Lucian. He lived in the first half of the fourth century in Rome. Lucian's life became an example of selfless service and martyrdom. Lucian gave his wealth to the poor and became a hermit. It was a time of severe persecution of Christians. Lucian was imprisoned, but he remained steadfast in his faith even in the face of torture.

On October 15, St. Eutymius is also honored. The saint left everything he had in life and went to the desert, where he fasted, prayed, and led an ascetic life. Eutymius became a mentor to new disciples and spread Christianity.

The World Breast Cancer Day is held annually on October 15 to draw public attention to the problems of this type of oncology, to spread awareness of this issue and the need to diagnose the disease at an early stage. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women.

The White Cane Day was established in 1969 in Colombo, USA, at the general meeting of the International Federation of the Blind, which was later changed to the World Blind Union. The day serves as a reminder to society of the existence of people with disabilities, of solidarity and assistance.

The white cane became a symbol of the blind thanks to a photographer named James Biggs, who lived in the early twentieth century. After an accident, he lost his eyesight, so he had to walk around the city with the help of a cane. But people hardly reacted to a black cane on the street, so Biggs painted it white. Subsequently, the innovation was picked up by blind people not only in England, but all over the world.

  • European Breast Health Day;
  • Day of Remembrance of Children Who Died as Infants and Unborn;
  • Tiger Day;
  • National Mushroom Day in the United States;
  • National Shawarma Day in Canada.
