1620 - after a three-month voyage on the Mayflower ship, families of English Puritan immigrants land in North America near Cape Cod.
1764 - Catherine II decree abolishes the Hetmanate in Ukraine.
1783 - The first human-piloted balloon of the brothers Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Etienne Mongolfier takes to the skies above Paris.
1806 - Napoleon declares a "continental blockade" of Great Britain.
1877 - Thomas Edison presents his phonograph.
1906 - The first issue of the Belarusian newspaper Nasha Niva was published in Vilnius.
