Elena BylimNews

On Sunday, February 9, the Church commemorates the martyr Nikephoros, St. Pancratius, hieromonk, and hermit of the Kyiv Cave Monastery. St. Nikephoros gave his life for his faith in Christ. His name, which means "to bear victory" in Greek, reflects his fearless and victorious testimony of faith in the face of martyrdom.

St. Pancratius of the Caves is one of the most revered saints of Kyivan Rus. His life and deeds have become a model for many generations of believers. Not much is known about the life of St. Pancratius. He lived in the 13th century and was a hieromonk of the Kyiv Cave Monastery.

He spent his days in severe asceticism, prayerful deeds, and fasting. During his lifetime, St. Pancratius became famous for the gift of healing. Many people came to him for help, and he, praying and anointing them with holy oil, healed them of their ailments.

St. Pancratius died in the Kyiv Cave Monastery and was buried in the Far Caves. His relics have been preserved incorrupt and are still a place of pilgrimage for believers.
