What holidays are celebrated on February 5

On February 5, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the martyr Agathia, St. Theodosius, Archbishop of Chernihiv, and the martyrs Theodula, Helladius, Macarius, and Evagrius.

The Holy Martyr Agathia lived in the third century in Sicily. She was known for her beauty and piety. According to legend, Agathia rejected the offer of the Roman governor Quintian, for which she was brutally tortured and martyred. She is revered as the patron saint of Catania and a protector of fires.

St. Theodosius (Mykhailo Uhlytskyi) was born in the seventeenth century in Ukraine. He was a well-known church leader, polemic writer, and preacher. Theodosius served as Archbishop of Chernihiv, where he became famous for his wisdom and spiritual leadership. He is revered as one of the greatest saints of Ukraine.

The martyrs Theodulus, Helladius, Macarius, and Evagrius suffered for their faith in the fourth century in Sevastia (modern Turkey). Theodulus was a warrior, and Helladius, Macarius, and Evagrius were his friends. They refused to renounce Christianity, for which they were subjected to severe torture and executed. They are revered as an example of unwavering faith and loyalty to Christ.

Every year on February 5, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the State Special Transport Service. This is a professional holiday for military personnel and employees of this important structure, which ensures the smooth operation of the country's transport infrastructure.

The State Special Transport Service (SSTS) was established in 2004 to ensure the sustainable functioning of transport in peacetime and during special periods. The service is a military unit within the Ministry of Defense.

The main tasks of the SSTS are:

  • ensuring the smooth operation of rail, road, water and air transport;
  • protecting and defending transport facilities such as bridges, tunnels, train stations and airports;
  • De-mining and clearing the transport infrastructure of explosive ordnance;
  • Participation in emergency response, including man-made and natural disasters.

World Nutella Day is a great holiday for all fans of this chocolate and nut paste. February 5 is the right day to enjoy this delicacy to your heart's content and celebrate with millions of people around the world. The history of nutella began in Italy, in the town of Alba. In 1946, confectioner Pietro Ferrero decided to create something special because cocoa was in short supply at the time. Instead of limiting himself to cocoa butter, he added hazelnuts to his delicacies. This is how Pasta Gianduja was created, which later became known as Nutella.

World Read Aloud Day is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday of February. The holiday was founded in 2010 by the international educational organization LitWorld. The goal is to encourage people of all ages to read aloud, as it promotes literacy, enriches vocabulary, improves communication skills and critical thinking.
