The holiday was established by a presidential decree in 2000 and is celebrated by signalmen and specialists of related professions in military units and subdivisions. On August 8, 1920, the Kyiv Military Engineering Courses began training signalmen at the former Junker Military School in Kyiv.

World Cat Day was founded by the International Fund for Animal Protection. Annual events dedicated to the protection of these four-legged creatures have been held since 2002.

The International Mountaineers' Day began to be celebrated in the early 2000s. The day is dedicated to the first successful ascent to the peak of Mount Mont Blanc, which was made by Swiss climbers Jacques Balma and Michel-Gabriel Packard in 1786.
