St. Matthew's Day, Panteleimon the Healer, Panteleimon's Day is a religious holiday that falls on August 9, according to the new style. It is associated with the commemoration of the Apostle Matthew, one of Christ's closest disciples.

In folk beliefs, this day has its own signs and traditions. For example, it is believed that snakes become especially aggressive and can crawl close to people.

Also, on St. Matthew's Day, it is forbidden to refuse to help other people and remain indifferent to the problems of loved ones, to work in the field, and not to make repairs or mow the grass.

International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples

The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1994, aims to draw attention to the problems faced by indigenous peoples and to celebrate their contribution to the preservation of the cultural heritage and biodiversity of the planet. In Ukraine, this day reminds us of multinationalism and the importance of preserving the cultural identity of each nation.

Nagasaki Disaster Remembrance Day in Japan

Nagasaki Memorial Day is commemorated not only in Japan but also internationally. This date commemorates the explosion of the atomic bomb in 1945, which caused widespread destruction and numerous human casualties.

The USSR declares war on Japan

On August 9, 1945, the Soviet Union unilaterally broke the non-aggression pact with the Japanese Empire and declared war on it. As a result, the Union annexed the territories of South Sakhalin, Kwantung with the cities of Port Arthur and Dalian, and the Kuril Islands.

The Japanese surrender was signed on September 2, 1945.

The explosion of the atomic bomb in Nagasaki

On the same day in 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Nagasaki, causing enormous destruction and loss of life. The explosion became one of the worst tragedies in human history and put an end to World War II.

"Death match" in Kyiv

On August 9, 1942, a "Death Match" took place in Nazi-occupied Kyiv between the local team of the Khlibzavod and a team of German soldiers. The Ukrainians won, which was an act of courage and resistance to the occupiers. The match ended with a 5-3 victory for the Kyiv team.
