What holidays are celebrated on October 27
October 15, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of St. Nestor the Chronicler. Nestor was a writer-hagiographer, a monk of the Kyiv Cave Monastery, and lived in the late 11th and early 12th centuries. Nestor was born in Kyiv, and at the age of 17 he decided to become a monk, taking the vows of the Pechersk Monastery. Later he became a deacon. It was Nestor who wrote the Tale of Bygone Years, based on various ancient sources, stories of old-timers, and stories of the people.
The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language was established by a presidential decree in 1997 and is celebrated annually in honor of the chronicler Nestor, a follower of the creators of the Slavic written language, Cyril and Methodius. Linguistic historians say that the written Ukrainian language began with St. Nestor the Chronicler.
The Day of Motorists and Road Builders is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of October. The holiday was established in Ukraine in support of the initiative of road transport and road workers in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 452/93 of October 13, 1993.
