What changes await MacBook Air: everything we know about the upcoming 2025 models
The expectations of Apple fans are always filled with anticipation of something new and extraordinary. And now there are rumors of an update to one of the most popular laptop models, the MacBook Air.
This time, Apple seems to have decided to surprise us not only with traditional hardware improvements, but also with the expansion of functionality that will make working with the laptop even more comfortable and productive. MacRumors has gathered all the available rumors and facts to give you an idea of what to expect from the upgraded MacBook Air 2025.
A new level of performance with the M4 chip
At the heart of the updated MacBook Air will be the Apple M4 chip, a powerful processor with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. This isn't the first Apple device to feature this chip. Previously, it was featured in MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini. Thus, it will make the laptop even faster and more productive, especially in multitasking mode. According to Geekbench 6 tests, the M4 delivers up to 25 percent performance improvement over the previous generation of chips. In addition, the improved energy efficiency of M4 will have a positive impact on the battery life of the MacBook Air.
More memory for comfortable work
Apple sticks to the trend of increasing the amount of RAM in the basic configurations of its laptops. Starting with previous models, the company increased the minimum amount of RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB. It is quite logical to assume that it will continue in the 2025 models. 16 GB of RAM will allow users to work comfortably with resource-intensive programs and run multiple applications simultaneously without any delays.
Next-generation camera and expanded connectivity
The new MacBook Air is expected to feature an updated 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage. This feature automatically keeps the user in the center of the frame during video calls. In addition, the camera will most likely support Desk View, which will allow you to display the desktop view from above. Previously, Center Stage was only available on new iPads and Macs connected to Apple Studio Display.
Another important update concerns ports. Instead of two Thunderbolt 3 ports, the MacBook Air 2025 is likely to get three Thunderbolt 4 ports. This will expand the ability to connect external devices such as displays, drives, and other accessories. In addition, the new MacBook Air models are likely to allow you to connect two external displays even when the laptop lid is open.
Design modifications and other possible changes
The last redesign of MacBook Air took place in 2022, and so far there are no substantial rumors about changes in the appearance of the 2025 model. Most likely, the laptop will retain its recognizable design with a thin body and bezels around the screen. Nevertheless, some sources suggest that the option of a nano-texture display, as in the MacBook Pro and iMac models, may appear. However, this is just a guess for now.
Release date and price
According to a well-known insider Mark Gurman, new MacBook Air models may be presented earlier than other devices expected this spring, such as the iPhone SE 4. Most likely, the announcement will take place via a press release in the Apple Newsroom between January and March. As for the price, it is likely to remain at the level of previous models.
