What a highway bridge over Kyiv's Lybid River looked like in the 1950s. Unique photo
The capital's Lybid River was mentioned in the Kyivan Chronicle back in 968. In the 1950s, its channel was not yet hidden by concrete slabs, and a road bridge was built in Vydubychi to allow cars to cross it.
The old photos were published in the spraga.info community on Facebook. Unfortunately, nowadays, the river has turned into a garbage dump.
"A bridge over the Lybid River in the Vydubychi neighborhood, 1950-1951," the post reads.
In the published photo, you can see that a bridge was built for cars, which was apparently at least 20 meters long and at least 2 meters high.
Lybid is a right tributary of the Dnipro River in Kyiv. Its length is 17.1 km. It is believed that the Lybid River was named after the sister of the legendary founders of Kyiv - Kyi, Shchek, and Khoryv. The Chronicle stated that "it was not possible to water a horse at Lybid."
