"We have never been outcasts": Russian Olympic champion says Russians forgive everyone

Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova issued a traditional Russian propaganda nonsense that sanctions only benefit the aggressor country. The State Duma deputy noted that the suspension from international competitions only makes Russian athletes stronger.

She said this in an interview with the VseProSport portal. The former ice skating athlete of Vladimir Putin's dictatorial regime also added that the Russian people are "patient and forgiving," and the West has never been among the outcasts.

"We are patient and probably forgiving. Our entire history proves this: we have already gone through this during the Cold War, when international competitions were not available to us until the 1952 Olympics. We were quietly developing internally, showing amazing results, and then breaking into the global sports community with these results. So we already had everything, we had gone through it all, unlike them. They were never outcasts," Zhurova said.

Before that, she accused Ukraine of imposing new EU sanctions against chess player Sergey Karyakin and gymnast Nikita Nagorny.
