Velvet season in Odesa in 2024: beaches, entertainment, prices

From the second half of August to the end of October, Odesa experiences a special period. The air temperature drops to a comfortable level, tourists go home, and the beaches become almost empty. Read below to find out how much a vacation on the Black Sea in Ukraine will cost.

Beaches

During the velvet season, there are fewer and fewer people, and the cost of housing, food, and attractions is significantly reduced. The average air temperature at this time ranges from 23°C to 25°C.

The most popular beach is Caletȯn. It is located in the city center and has a modern infrastructure with restaurants, cafes and sun loungers. There are also places for active recreation, including water attractions and the possibility of renting sports equipment. By the way, it takes only 1.5 minutes to get to the nearest shelter from here. Opening hours: 8:00-20:00.

If you are planning a trip with kids, we recommend choosing True Man Club. It has sun loungers, beds, bungalows, adult and children's pools. The location is open from 08:00 to 18:00.

Odesa also has an Inclusive Beach, which is designed for people with disabilities. It has special lifts for access to water, toilets with equipment, and a medical center.

By the way, since July 2024, Ithaca, Ibiza, Zebra, Public, Grand Petite, and Prymorske village have been open for recreation.

However, keep in mind that safety rules must be followed at each location.

It is forbidden to be on the beaches:

• during the air raid alert;
• if suspicious objects are found in the water and on the shore;
• if a storm has started that is assigned more than 2 points;
• outside of swimming areas;
• on piers, traverses, breakwaters and other coastal structures.

Entertainment

• Aquapark Hawaii

An ideal location for those who vacation with children. For extreme sports enthusiasts, there are 20 slides of different levels of difficulty, including the most popular Rocket.

For younger visitors, a real water town with attractions and swimming pools was built. Animators and nannies also work here. And for those who just want to relax and sunbathe, there are comfortable areas with sun loungers. In addition, there are VIP areas and restaurants on the territory.

• Odesa catacombs

There is a huge network of underground passages under the city. Their total length is about 2.5 thousand kilometers. They were formed as a result of stone quarrying. Such intensive activity at the end of the XX century had a negative impact on the geological conditions of the region.

It is believed that the dungeon once served as a shelter for people hiding from the plague. Today, excursions are organized here.

• Museum of wax figures "At Baba Ooty"

More than 70 exhibits are kept here. All of them are housed in four themed rooms. In the Tsar's Room, you can see historical figures, including the Count de Richelieu. Kids will definitely enjoy the Children's Room. Here they will meet characters from the Shrek cartoon, Pirates of the Caribbean movie, etc. Hollywood will appeal to movie lovers. The Hall of Musketeers features the famous Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan.

There is also an art gallery on the territory where you can see various works of fine art.

• The Potemkin Stairs

The monument is considered to be one of the most prominent architectural structures in Europe. Its beauty was praised by famous writers, namely Alexander Grin and Mark Twain. It offers a picturesque panoramic view from its top.

Nearby is the oldest funicular in Ukraine, which connects the city with the sea coast. The lift was built in 1902, but later it stopped working. After numerous reconstructions, it was reopened in 2005 in honor of the 211th anniversary of Odesa's foundation.

Prices

In mid-September, a double studio room costs about 1650 UAH per night. A deluxe apartment with a bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchen will cost you about 2200 UAH.

In June, a double room in a hostel cost an average of ₴935, and in mid-September, you'll pay from ₴500 to ₴700 per night for similar accommodation.
