The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra will ring the main bell every day to commemorate the captured Ukrainian military. The tradition of the "Bell of Memory and Hope" was launched on Tuesday, December 5.
This was reported by an OBOZ.UA correspondent. Each time it will be preceded by a minute of silence.
"(The bell - Ed.) will ring 9 times, symbolizing 9 years of war, and will remind Ukrainians and people around the world of the military held captive, civilians illegally held in Moscow torture chambers, missing persons, children and adults deported to Russia," said Maksym Ostapenko, director of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.
On Tuesday, December 5, the first such action was attended by families of prisoners of war and the military. The abbot of the monastery, Abraham, and a well-known volunteer and former prisoner of war, Yulia "Tayra" Payevska, were also there. They were the first to ring the bell.
"The bell should ring until the last prisoner of war returns home," added the Lavra's abbot, Abrahamiy.
As a reminder, for the first time in 30 years, Kyiv has started letting people up the Great Lavra Bell Tower. Before that, only the first three tiers of the bell tower were open to the public, and the last tour to its highest point took place in the 1990s.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Kyiv Economic Court ordered the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (monastery) of the UOC to return its property to the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra". In particular, we are talking about 79 objects of the Lower Lavra.
